It is always pleasing when people who have fought a hard and admirable campaign are rewarded with a deserved and stunning victory.
None more so than the campaigners at Snettisham in Norfolk who fought hard to regain a challenged footpath and have won.
Following the recent public inquiry, the government’s inspector has confirmed that the beach path at Snettisham is and always was a public right of way.
Congratulations to the Snettisham campaigners, to the incomparable John Trevelyan who put their case at the inquiry, and to the thousand plus people who went on the protest march a few months ago.
This has been a textbook campaign and should inspire others fighting to retain and regain precious public rights of way.
Our countryside and our right to access it has never been under such threat as we see today.
But we can fight back.
