Making the most of the day

What a day it was on the 23rd of June!  We drove to Mount Stewart on the Ards Peninsula to relax and enjoy the sunshine!

  1. It is one of my favourite places: somewhere to walk and relax; lots of wonderful trees; somewhere to eat! We are never disappointed.

    1. Thank you Stefanie. That part of Northern Ireland (the southern end of the Ards Peninsula) seems to have a climate all of its own, a micro-climate! It’s about a 75 minute drive from where I live but always worth visiting no matter what time of year.
      Warm hugs,
      Ashley

      1. How interesting!
I just checked if my husband and I came through this area on our trips from Dublin to Belfast and then from Belfast to the Giant’s Causeway… But from Dublin to Belfast we took the most direct route and therefore missed out on experiencing “The Ards” for ourselves. Surely something to remember for our next visit to the Emerald Island (in hope that travelling from the EU to the UK will still be as easy, then).
Now, of course, you got me interested in learning if you had to go by ferry or not, but I do not want to intrude and leave it up to you, how much sharing feels comfortable to you. ❤
Sending warm hugs right back at you – from a rainy Hamburg,
        Steffi

    2. Hi Steffi, driving from Dublin to Belfast you will pass around Newry but if you take a right turn and follow the coast to Warrenpoint and beyond you will be surprised by the great scenery. Follow the coast to Newcastle then Downpatrick (where St. Patrick reputed to be buried) and on to Strangford town. From there a short 15 minute ferry across Strangford Lough to Portaferry. Follow the inner coast road to Newtownards and you will pass Mount Stewart. It is a short drive from Newtownards to Belfast.

      1. Hey Ashley,
Thank you for the beautifully detailed description. I have saved it and next time when we are on the Isles we will take that right turn towards Warrenpoint and beyond! So much yet to see… 🙂
        Much love,
        Steffi
